Lieutenant General (Ret.) Michael L. Howard is a distinguished U.S. Army veteran with over 36 years of leadership and operational experience across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Most recently, he served as Deputy Commander of U.S. European Command (EUCOM), where he played a key role in crisis response efforts involving Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, and Ukraine. Prior to this, he served as EUCOM’s Director of Operations and previously led the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW), including his role as official escort during the state funeral of former President George H. W. Bush.
LTG Howard’s military career includes six years in combat with deployments to the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He has held senior command positions at every level—from company through brigade—and has served on both Army and Joint Staffs, as well as in installation commands. His leadership has been marked by strategic oversight of large organizations with complex missions and extensive budgetary responsibilities.
A graduate of Mercer University with a B.S. in Biology, LTG Howard also holds an M.S. in National Security Strategic Studies from the National War College. He currently leads a portfolio focused on leadership development and national security advisory services, which includes executive coaching, public speaking, and consulting on strategic security issues in Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific. He holds an active TS-SCI security clearance.
